Moontower Comedy Festival App
The Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, Texas needed an app to streamline the festival process for attendees. With the app, users can purchase show tickets, view performers, shows, or venues and add items to favorites lists to plan out their festival experience on the go. This app has been live since 2019 and can be accessed through the App Store under ‘Moontower Comedy Festival’.

Branding
We tried out a variety of visual IDs before landing on the brand colors below.
Initial Sketches
To begin, we spent some time exploring the user flow and potential content placement within the app. These wireframes were then skinned and transformed into the final product.
Onboarding Screens
When a user first opens the app, they’re greeted by Moontower’s ‘out of this world’ onboarding experience. The instructional elements on each page animate to better illustrate the functionality of the app.
The Home Screen
The home screen is the hub where users can access every event happening during the festival. Depending on how users want to browse the content, they can click into the festival schedule, performers, or venues and then add specific shows or performers to their favorites list. To improve usability, the navigation menu has been moved to the bottom of the screen instead of its traditional spot at the top of the page.
Performer Profile
From this page, a user can learn more about a performer, see when their next shows are, view relevant videos, or access their social pages. These pages also cross-link to the show profiles and allow a user to add a performer to their favorites list. Upon page load, the image of the UFO animates in and ‘beams down’ the performer and then subtly floats in the air above them.
Venue Profile
Similar to the performer profile, the venue profile tells a user everything they need to know about a particular performance location. They can read a short blurb about the venue, see who’s performing next, or see a list of all comedians performing during the run of the festival. There’s also the option of viewing the full venue schedule, which will pull up all upcoming shows in a list format with cross-linking options to learn more.
Venue List
This view, accessed through the ‘venues’ selection on the home page, shows all of the event locations in both list view and map view. The user has the option of scrolling through all of the venues or using the search bar at the bottom of the page. The map view features more Moontower branding with the number of events per location indicated on each planetary location marker.
