Meijer Apply, Verify & Buy
Meijer, the superstore chain, requested an update to their existing acquisitions experience to allow users to apply for a card in store with the help of an associate. The user also needed to be able to immediately use a temporary digital barcode for their Meijer card, and be able to access the temporary digital barcode from a new landing page for a 4 hour period after their application is approved.

Temporary Barcode Landing Page Flow
Once a user is approved for a Meijer card, they can use their digital temporary account barcode for up to 4 hours. They can access this digital barcode from within the ‘Card Details’ section of their Meijer card dashboard, but they will also receive a text message with a link to a landing page url that shows the barcode. We had to create an entirely new flow showing this temporary account barcode landing page experience, including what happens once the page is expired.
A New Application Experience - Mobile
Our current mobile experience takes a conversational UI approach to the application process and we had to update this flow to accommodate Meijer’s requests. The client wanted to be able to give credit to store employees who helped a customer apply for a card, so we needed to add fields for a ‘Team Member ID’ to be entered. We placed this field at the beginning of the application experience so a store employee could give their information during the beginning of the interaction and not need to be present during the rest of the application process. We also had to accommodate for location services in this flow so Meijer can see which stores are receiving high numbers of in-store applications.
The temporary account barcode is shown to the user at the very end of the application flow, once they have been approved for the Meijer card.
A Slightly different desktop experience
Meijer’s existing desktop flow functions differently than mobile, so our solution had to be slightly altered. We placed the ‘team member ID’ field at the beginning of the flow, just like we did with mobile, but the desktop version is broken out into separate steps in a multi-page card format. Since this digital barcode is meant to be used in-store, the odds of someone filling this particular application out on a large breakpoint are pretty slim.
Barcode Landing Page
Once a user is approved for the card, they receive a text message directing them to a url which houses the temporary barcode. This barcode remains active for 4 hours and can be accessed from this landing page url throughout the time. Once those 4 hours are up, an expired message is shown to the user.
